What time is the Fighting Fifth Hurdle at Sandown this Saturday will be a question horse racing fans will be eager to know. As last weekend’s cancelled Newcastle race has now been slotted in to an epic 8-race Tingle Creek Chase Day card at the Esher track.
The Fighting Fifth Hurdle Will Be Run at 1:15pm at Sandown on Saturday
The Fighting Fifth Hurdle time will be 1:15pm on Saturday as last week’s cancelled Grade Two race has been switched to Sandown’s popular Tingle Creek card.
This means the action at the Esher track will start at an earlier time of 11:35am with the Betfair Claremont Novices’ Listed Race the opening contest. With the Sandown card now featuring eight races in total.
The rescheduled Fighting Fifth Hurdle will be the first of five LIVE ITV4 races at 1:15pm. These will also consist of the Henry VIII Novices’ Chase (1:50pm), the Rachael Blackmore Serial Winners Fund Handicap Hurdle (2:25pm), the Tingle Creek Chase (3:00) and end with the long distance London National (3:35pm).
At Sandown, the going is currently described as ‘soft’, but ‘good-to-soft’ in places. While on the chase course and ‘heavy’ on the hurdles track with more rain forecast.

Fighting Fifth Hurdle Could See The Return Of Constitution Hill (and Shishkin)
Not only will Sandown horse racing fans get an extra race for free this Saturday with the Fighting Fifth Hurdle, but the race is also expected to feature two of the big names from the world of jump racing.
Constitution Hill, who was the red-hot favourite with the best UK horse racing betting sites, is a hopeful runner despite his trainer Nicky Henderson making it no secret he’s not 100% happy. The reason being, this race now comes just 16 days before the Christmas Hurdle at Kempton.
The Fighting Fifth Hurdle is also a race Constitution Hill won in 2022 – bolting up by 12-lengths (watch below).
He then added the 2023 Champion Hurdle and Aintree Hurdle – with his total prize money now over £6ook.
Nicky Henderson could also run his former Arkle Chase winner Shishkin, who was also meant to run at last weekend’s cancelled Newcastle fixture in the Rehearsal Chase. The Seven Barrows trainer has also said that he needs to get a run into Shishkin before a possible King George VI Chase challenge on Boxing Day.
And with options running out a return to hurdles could be on the cards for Shishkin, who refused to race in his last outing in the 1965 Ascot Chase on 25th November.
Shishkin last ran over hurdles on March 10th, when winning the 2020 Supreme Novices’ Hurdle at the Cheltenham Festival (watch below). His overall record over the smaller obstacles is 3-from-4.
Other Possible 2023 Fighting Fifth Hurdle Runners
The horses entered for the 2023 Fighting Fifth Hurdle are Goshen, Irish Point, Love Envoi, Not So Sleepy and Wear It Well.
With the final declarations announced on Thursday 7th December.
