BANKER: 12:45 Warwick: JINGKO BLUE 8/11
The Nicky Henderson yard introduced a similar sort at the weekend to win at Ascot and they look to have found a nice opening for this former winning pointer. Sold for £225k at the Tatts Cheltenham Sales in February, this 4 year-old is clearly held in high regard and in a race that lacks depth looks worth chancing on rules debut. It’s also a contest the Nicky Henderson like to have on their radar, with two wins in the last three years, which is another good sign he’s ready to rumble.
LAY OF THE DAY: 7:30 Newcastle: RATAFIA 9/4
Won at Redcar last time out by 1 1/4 lengths but that came on heavy ground and will face much different conditions here on the AW – where he’s yet to win from five past tries. The 5 year-old is also up 5lbs here from that last win, while his three previous trips to Newcastle read a disappointing 11-8-6. Looks worth taking on today.
STAT HORSE: 1:12 Lingfield: QUEEN AMINATU 7/2
A decent Listed race at the Surrey track here so some of the bigger stables are on show – including the William Haggas team. They run Queen Aminatu here and she actually took this prize last year too. Yes, draw 11 is not 100% ideal but is often held up anyway so it might not be a huge problem. Jockey Cieren Fallon, who rode last year too, remains in the saddle and her form on the AW tracks is solid with 5 wins and 3 seconds from just 9 starts. This race would have been a target again and despite running 6th last time out was only beaten 1 3/4 lengths.
