Horse Racing Tips Today: Friday 20th October 2023
The UK afternoon horse racing cards on Friday 20th October have been hit by a string of three abandonments, with Haydock, Uttoxeter and Fakenham all off due to the bad weather. That leaves us with just Redcar, who race this afternoon and Newcastle (AW) tonight.

BANKER: 5:05 Redcar: VERBIER EVS
This Frankel filly Verbier hasn’t been out since March, when making a winning debut at Wolverhampton, but was due to run recently at Chester until their card was called off. That, however, is a good sign that connections have this 3 year-old ready to rumble and even though it won’t be easy running here with a penalty (giving weight away) the drop back to a mile on softer ground looks a good move. The icing on the cake is the Ralph Beckett yard are in tip-top order at the moment with a 30% strike-rate with their runners in the last 14 days (12-from-40). On a day of limited racing, she looks banker material.
EACH-WAY: 5:00 Newcastle: KISS MY FACE 11/1
It’s interesting that the Brian Ellison yard have won the last two runnings of this race and both were ridden by Ben Robinson. They team up again here with Kiss My Face, who is a proven CD winner and has also won 50% of his 6 starts on the AW. Having not been on the track for 168 is the slight niggle – but in a race the yard clearly likes to target, a chance is taken on this 6 year-old being fit enough to go well at a fair e/w price.
LAY OF THE DAY: 7:30 Newcastle: LOVE YOUR WORK 2/1
Love Your Work will be having his 63rd run tonight so certainly brings plenty of experience to the table, but he’s now a 7 year-old – pushing on 8 – and even though this doesn’t look the best of races could just find some younger legs too good tonight. Yes, he’s been running consistently of late, but hasn’t been quite getting the job done – with three seconds in his last four. He races off the same mark today as last time (72) – however, is also now 13 runs without a win, which came way back in April 22 and all this suggests he’s little value at the prices this evening.
