Eden Hazard Opens Up On Retirement

On Wednesday night, Hazard was involved in a charity match and looked just as good as he did in his prime at Stamford Bridge and found the back of the net whilst setting up another three goals.

He was all smiles in Calais playing alongside French icons such as Robert Pires and Didier Deschamps.

Hazard had a glittering career and made a name for himself at Chelsea, quickly establishing himself as one of the Premier League greats during his time at Stamford Bridge.

He won five league titles across his career with Lille, Chelsea and Real Madrid as well as a Champions League, two Europa Leagues and plenty of domestic trophies.

Hazard was named PFA Players’ Player of the Year and Premier League Player of the Season following the 2014-15 campaign. He racked up 110 goals and 92 assists in 352 appearances for the West London side and will go down as one of their greatest ever players.

However, his €100m+ move to Madrid never worked out and he suffered a gut wrenching 19 injuries during his four years at the club, playing just 76 times in all competitions.

Hazard spoke out on his retirement on Wednesday: “I had always said that I would stop as soon as I didn’t have fun on the pitch anymore. I didn’t want to go and play somewhere for the money,” he told the French media.

“It was the best solution. I didn’t enjoy training anymore… And I wasn’t playing anymore. The decision was simple.

“In life, you can’t explain everything. I am at peace with myself. I’m happy. I have so many things to do outside of football that I was able to make a serene choice”
