Manchester City star Rodri has recently praised Pep Guardiola’s managerial efforts stating that he has been key in elevating his game to a “level he didn’t know he could reach”.

The Spanish midfielder has been a key player for City since signing in 2019 and was pivotal in helping them win a historic treble at the end of last season.

He scored the only goal of the game when City won the Champions League by beating Inter Milan 1-0 in Istanbul, and was later named Player of the Tournament.

Rodri’s impact in City’s side has been particularly noticeable in recent weeks following his three-match ban after he picked up a red card against Nottingham Forest last month.

The Cityzens have gone on to lose all three games without the powerhouse in midfield, with consecutive defeats in the Premier League to Wolves and Arsenal and an early Carabao Cup exit at the hands of Newcastle.

It is fair to say that the 27-year-old has been badly missed for Guardiola’s side, but the good news for City fans is that he will be back when they host Brighton in the Premier League this weekend.

Rodri was speaking to the media whilst on international duty with Spain and hailed Guardiola: “He is the most influential coach of my career, he has elevated me to a level I didn’t know I could reach.

“When you get used to being with him, I say ‘why don’t they (the opposition) do this’, I see everything easier. He gives you a toolbox and you have more tools than the rest.”

The former Atletico Madrid midfielder already has three goals and two assists this season, and will look to beat his four goals and seven assists from last campaign.
