See below the key Ascot horse racing trends ahead of 2023 QIPCO Champions Day this Saturday for all six races. Use these stats to help find the best profile of past winners and put history on your side.
1.15 – Qipco British Champions Long Distance Cup (Group 2) Cl1 2m ITV
The 2022 Ascot Gold Cup winner Kyprios returns to the scene of his biggest success. This Aidan O’Brien-trained 5 year-old has a few injury niggles and only raced four since and was beaten on his return in the Irish St Leger at the Curragh last month.
On a plus, it’s a race his trainer (O’Brien) has won four times but needs to bounce back after that recent defeat and is also taking on Trueshan, who has won the last three runnings of this Champions Day opener. Hollie Doyle has also ridden this Alan King stayer in all those three success and continues in the saddle in their bid for a famous four-time.

Kinross, who is likely to be ridden by Frankie Dettori, won this contest last year and will be a popular choice to follow-up. He’ll face the July Cup winner Shaquille, but this Julie Camacho runner flopped in the Sprint Cup at Haydock last time, so needs to find the winning touch again.
24% of the last 21 favourites have won, plus note horses from stalls 12 and 14, who have been placed in the 10 of the last 12 runnings between them – last year 150/1 shot Run For Freedom was second from gate 14.

It’s also not been a bad race for the market leader, with 33% of the last 15 favourites winning, plus a certain Frankie Dettori has ridden 3 of the last 7 winners and he gets the leg-up on Free Wind.
Finally, respect horses drawn between stalls 6-12 as ALL of the last 8 winners came from this bracket.

3.05 – Queen Elizabeth II Stakes (Group 1) Cl1 1m ITV
Paddington’s winning spree ended in the Juddmonte International at York last time out after winning seven on the spin. The drop back to a mile should suit though and after a busy spell over the summer connections have freshened him up with 2 months off.
3 and 5 year-olds have the best recent record – winning 9 of the last 10 – and we’ve seen 43% of the last 21 favourites win.
This season’s 1000 Guineas runner-up Tahiyra will be the big danger to Paddington. This Dermot Weld runner has since won the Coronation Stakes here at Royal Ascot and the Matron Stakes at Leopardstown. She’ll also get a handy 3lb mares’ allowance, but the big negative is that we’ve only had 2 filly/mare winners of the QEII Stakes since 1988.

3.45 – Qipco Champion Stakes (British Champions Middle Distance) (Group 1) Cl1 1m2f ITV
The main event – the Champion Stakes – will see last year’s slightly surprising winner Bay Bridge (watch below) back for more – this Sir Michael Stoute runner will be looking to become the first ‘back-to-back’ winner since Cracksman in 2017 and 2018.
He’ll face a stern challenge from the Epsom Derby runner-up King Of Steel, Juddmonte International Stakes winner Mostahdaf and the likely favourite and French raider – Horizon Dore – who has won his last four, including the Prix Dollar last time out at Longchamp.
In terms of the trends, 3 and 4 year-olds have had the best record of late, while note a top three finish last time out and having won at least 4 times – something two-time winner King Of Steel falls down on.

4.25 –Â Balmoral Handicap (Sponsored By Qipco) Cl2 1m ITV
The final contest is the only handicap on the card, but it’s still worth a cool ÂŁ100k to the winner.
Just nine past runnings so the trends are only just taking shape, but with 8 of those winners carrying between 9-1 and 9-6, this is a good place to start.
Also respect horses drawn 10 or lower and aged 4 or 5, plus trainer David O’Meara loves to target the race and he’s already won 33% of the nine runnings – including 80/1 winner last year Shelir.
