Arsenal are reportedly interested in making a January move for Aston Villa striker, Ollie Watkins, despite the England star signing a new contract earlier this month.

The Gunners are willing to make an offer in the upcoming January window, as Mikel Arteta looks to strengthen his side midway through the campaign.

Watkins, who scored in England’s 1-0 victory over Australia on Friday evening, has also attracted interested from Arsenal’s rivals Spurs – as they look to replace Harry Kane.

The former Brentford striker has started the campaign strongly, contributing to eight goals in as many Premier League matches (4 goals & 4 assists).

This scintillating form has been key to Aston Villa’s good form, as the Villains sit fifth in the table and are just four points from Spurs in first.

A move for the Aston Villa striker could prove difficult for the Gunners, as Watkins has recently signed a long-term contract – keeping him at the club until 2028

Arsenal have started the Premier League campaign strongly, sitting second in the Premier League and are only behind first place on goal difference.

The Gunners have picked up huge victories already, beating Manchester United, Manchester City and a bogey team for Arteta’s side over recent years, Everton.

However, Gabriel Jesus has faced injury concerns once again this year and Eddie Nketiah has led the line for large parts, scoring just two goals in eight league matches.

Arsenal had been linked with Watkins in the previous window, but decided to focus on other areas and signed Declan Rice, Kai Havertz and Jurrien Timber.

Ollie Watkins’ recent contract extension could see his price tag sky-rocket and any possible suitors, including Arsenal, may have to pay in excess of £50m.
