Pep Guardiola put in a three-hour effort to sway Jude Bellingham towards Manchester City instead of Real Madrid, according to reports.

Although Bellingham ultimately joined Real Madrid for £114 million, City made a late bid involving a higher fee for Borussia Dortmund and a bigger salary for the player. Despite the offer, Bellingham preferred a move to the Spanish capital.

Guardiola engaged in a lengthy conversation with Bellingham, attempting to convince him that he would be better fared developing in the Premier League and at City, specifically. Despite City’s attractive financial proposal, Bellingham remained steadfast in his choice to move to Madrid.

Guardiola respected Bellingham’s decision and wished him luck. Bellingham’s £114 million move to Real Madrid marked one of the smoothest transfers of the summer. The 20-year-old became the most expensive British footballer of all time.

Liverpool were initially in the running for Bellingham but decided to allocate their £100 million budget to sign Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai instead.

Now, Bellingham aims to continue his excellent form and help England secure a place in Euro 2024. England face Italy at Wembley in a pivotal qualifier on Tuesday October 17.
