Is Tiger Woods playing in the 2023 Ryder Cup? After not featuring in any of the three major golf championships following The Masters this year, we are taking a look to see if the greatest golfer of all time will feature at Marco Simone Golf & Country Club this week for the 44th Ryder Cup.
Is Tiger Woods Playing In The 2023 Ryder Cup?
Unfortunately for Tiger fans, the great man WILL NOT feature at the 2023 Ryder Cup this week.
Although he made the cut and completed three rounds at Augusta back in April, Woods was forced to withdraw after 54 holes at The Masters due to his ongoing injury struggles. The post-traumatic arthritis to his ankle required surgery which has kept him out of action for the rest of the year.
Last year, the 47-year-old made his return to golf after over a year out due to injuries sustained in a car crash in February 2021. Woods was hospitalised in serious, but stable condition and underwent emergency surgery. Now, Woods looks to be rebuilding his body and could well return to action in 2024.
The 15-time major champion last featured as a player at the Ryder Cup back in 2018 at Le Golf National in France. Despite being one of the greatest golfers of all time, if not the definitive best, Woods’ Ryder Cup record isn’t as good as you’d perhaps think.
The 47-year-old has lost far more matches than he has won at the Ryder Cup over the years. His Ryder Cup record stands at 12 wins, 21 losses and three halves across the eight Ryder Cup events he has played in throughout his career.

Tiger Woods has been a vice-captain for Team USA in the past. He was vice-captain in both 2016 and 2018, which includes playing in the 2018 Ryder Cup. However, it was an event to forget for Woods who lost all four of his matches at the 42nd Ryder Cup.
Despite not being officially involved in the 2023 Ryder Cup, Team USA captain Zach Johnson revealed that the great man will be on call for his wise counsel throughout the week in Rome, Italy.
“He is a great resource. He’s very invested in Team USA, very invested in how we navigate year in and year out. The guy is patriotic, he wants to win, he’s got experience and, shocker, he’s the best player in whatever decades. Thankfully, he’s an American. He is red white and blue, through and through.
“He’s amazing, and he will continue to be a part of Team USA going forward. He will not be in Rome, which is fine, it’s probably not wise, it was more or less his decision, but he’s great counsel,” said Johnson in a pre-Ryder Cup interview.
It is unknown as to when, or indeed if, we will see Tiger Woods back competing on the golf course. Fingers crossed we see the five-time Masters, three-time US Open, three-time Open Championship and four-time PGA Championship winner back on the golf course in the not so distant future.
