Fresh from their 150th anniversary friendly match in midweek, the SportsLens layers have been having a bit of fun looking at what odds England and Scotland would be if they joined the English Premier League.
- England compared to Arsenal and Liverpool if they joined the EPL
- Three Lions would be 8/1 to win the Premier League or 2/5 for a top four finish
- Scotland equivalent to Wolves or Nottm Forest
- Tartan Army 1000/1 to lift EPL title, but 4/1 to be relegated
Three Lions Win Latest England v Scotland Clash
Thanks to strikes from Phil Foden, Jude Bellingham and Harry Kane, England weren’t left with haggis on their face in their latest clash with Scotland – winning 3-1 at Hampden Park.
That meeting was the 116th time the nations had faced-off and surprisingly it’s closer than you might think in the overall head-to-head series, with just 8 victories between the sides.
- England Wins: 49
- Draws: 26
- Scotland Wins: 41
The win for England has also seen Southgate’s men having lost just four of their last 39 matches (90 mins) and many of the top UK football betting sites are now making them joint favourites @ 9/2 with France to win Euro 2024 in Germany next summer.
But Just How Would England and Scotland Fare In The EPL?
Ok, this is a bit of fun and you have to put your ‘imagination hat’ on here – but if you plonked the current England and Scotland teams into the English Premier League, just what odds would they be in the main betting markets?
With the huge array of attacking talent available to England, you could probably fill up two top quality teams.
Of course, Harry Kane, who scored his 59th international goal against Scotland recently, Phil Foden, Jude Bellingham, Bukayo Saka, Jack Grealish, Raheem Sterling, James Maddison and Marcus Rashford can’t ALL feature in the same team, so the strength in depth is ridiculous.
Therefore, the options off the bench would be insane, but, overall, with some potential frailties in defence and in maybe goal, the England starting eleven is probably not quite as good as the current Manchester City – but all round you could easily back an argument for them being in the Arsenal or Liverpool range right now – right?
Scotland’s Side Lacks Strength In Depth
Looking at Scotland – yes, they have some solid mid-range EPL players, with the likes of Scott McTominay, Kieran Tierney, Andy Robertson and John McGinn fitting the bill here.
However, there is a much more water thin depth to the Tartan Army outfit once you have to look beyond this bunch.
With this in mind, you could perhaps equate the level of this Scottish team to Nottingham Forest or Wolves type.
We got the SportsLens odds compilers to take a look at some of the popular EPL betting markets and where England and Scotland would sit.
