Martin Odegaard’s second half penalty proved to be the only goal of the game as ten-man Arsenal hung on until the very end to claim a hard-fought three points away at Crystal Palace.

Arsenal remain 5/1 to win Premier League title after Monday Night Football triumph

Arsenal were awarded a penalty shortly after the restart after a quick-thinking free-kick from Gabriel Martinelli released Eddie Nketiah through on goal, who got to the ball a split second before the rushing Sam Johnstone and tumbled over in the area.

VAR checked referee David Coote’s decision to award a spot-kick amid a possible foul by Thomas Partey in the build-up, but the decision stood and Odegaard stepped up instead of regular penalty taker Bukayo Saka to slot home and give his side the lead.

Takehiro Tomiyasu entered the starting XI in place of the injured Jurrien Timber who is facing a lengthy spell on the sidelines following an ACL injury in Arsenal’s opening weekend victory over Nottingham Forest, but saw red after picking up two yellows in seven minutes from the hour mark.

Palace threatened to level the scores as the Gunners resorted to a deep block in hopes of preserving their slender advantage, and Eberechi Eze was denied a penalty shortly after when falling to the ground as it appeared Partey had left a trailing leg out.

The visitors dug deep and claimed a huge victory to keep with the pace, tying Brighton and Manchester City with six points at the top of the table after the opening two gameweeks.
