Mauricio Pochettino will reportedly have another option within his midfield ranks, as Chelsea have triggered a £20million release clause for Leeds United midfielder Tyler Adams.

Amongst all the talks of Romeo Lavia and Moises Caicedo, Chelsea have reportedly met Leeds United’s £20million release clause for Tyler Adams.

This comes from Sky Sports News, who claim that the American midfielder will undergo his medical at Stamford Bridge within the next 24 hours.

Adams penned a new deal at Elland Road just a year ago, but following their relegation from the Premier League – a clause in his contract means he is allowed to depart for a £20million fee.

Despite being part of a Leeds squad that finished 19th in the English top flight last term, Adams was consistently one of the club’s better performers, and he will be a welcomed addition to Mauricio Pochettino’s squad – providing him with further depth in midfield.

The arrival of Adams isn’t expected to deter the Blues’ pursuit of both Caicedo and Lavia however, after they submitted a £48million bid for the latter on Wednesday.

Liverpool‘s £45million approach for Lavia was rejected by Southampton earlier in the window, and it remains to be seen whether Chelsea’s offer will be accepted.

A move for Caicedo still remains a top priority for Pochettino’s side though, and although they have struggled to strike an agreement with Brighton, they aren’t ruling out completing the deal before Sunday’s season opener against Liverpool.
