Ahead of the 2023-24 campaign, we asked ChatGPT for the ‘perfect’ Fantasy Premier League squad. The AI picks a host of star names – with some surprises included.

It’s that time of the year where FPL sides get finalised, with the opening Premier League weekend only a matter of days away.

Will Erling Haaland continue his record-breaking output or is Harry Kane the better option for players this year? We asked ChatGPT to give the ultimate FPL squad.

  10. Forward: Nicolas Jackson (Chelsea, £7m)

Substitutes:

  1. Goalkeeper: Robert Sanchez (Chelsea, £4.5m)
  2. Defender: John Stones (Manchester City, £5.5m)
  3. Midfielder: Lucas Paqueta (West Ham, £6m)
  4. Forward: William Osula (Sheffield United, £4.5m)

Goalkeepers

The AI has selected Arsenal shot-stopper, Aaron Ramsdale, who could be a shrewd pick for FPL users. The Gunners play Nottingham Forest, Crystal Palace and Fulham in their opening three fixtures – matches where a clean sheet is more than likely.

His back-up, Robert Sanchez, recently joined Chelsea from Brighton for £25m and may be a tempting option, as Kepa Arrizabalga, has failed to cement his place at Stamford Bridge.

Defenders

A back four of: Ben Chilwell, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Luke Shaw and Ruben Dias, is a formidable defensive line on paper.

The Liverpool defender has been an ever-present member in supporters squad over recent years, as not only have Liverpool been a dominant force – the Englishman has contributed to 66 goals from full-back.

Shaw and Chiwell are the starting options at their respective clubs, however, the latter will have a difficult start to the campaign as Chelsea welcome Liverpool to Stamford Bridge.

Including Manchester City options is always a safe bet, which may be why ChatGPT has selected Dias to start and John Stones as substitute addition.

Midfielders

Arguably the most important section of any FPL squad, the midfield formed by the AI has supported that claim. Bruno Fernandes created the most chances out of any Premier League player last season (119), making him a great option.

Bukayo Saka contributed to 25 Premier League goals last season, registering 3183 FPL points and has already been selected by 52% of players.

Jack Grealish will be looking to improve once again this year, after contributing to 15 goals last season whilst the Brazilian duo of Bruno Guimaraes and Lucas Paqueta are stellar choices given their importance to Newcastle and West Ham respectively.

Forwards

Maybe the most surprising option of this squad is the exclusion of Erling Haaland, who contributed to 45 goals in the Premier League (scoring a record-breaking 36).

However, the alternative option, Harry Kane, will undoubtedly be up there in the midst of the highest scorers this season. Scoring 30 goals for Spurs last season, despite the club finishing eight in the Premier League.

Nicolas Jackson is a risky selection, as the former Villarreal striker begins his first season in England. But the forward has shown signs of promise in pre-season and for just £7m, it could be a surprise bargain.
