King George VI & Queen Elizabeth Stakes Preview
This weekend’s headline race at Ascot is open as ever, with plenty of chances in the field. Each horse declared for the contest could have a say for a variety of reasons.
William Muir & Chris Grassick’s fairytale horse Pyledriver won this race last year at big odds of 18/1 and has every right to be within a chance of repeating history. After a lengthy time off the track due to injury, Pyledriver returned to action last month and won over course and distance in the Hardwicke Stakes.
Auguste Rodin by no surprise is one of the leading contenders in the King George betting odds, and is among the favourites to win the contest. The dual Derby hero comes into this weekend’s race in good form, looking for more Group 1 success at a course he’s never raced at.
Epsom Derby second King Of Steel will also look to run a big race and reverse the form with Auguste Rodin in their rematch following a scintillating win in the King Edward VII Stakes at Ascot last month.

With Auguste Rodin and King Of Steel being the only three-year-olds in the race, they’re afforded significant weight from their older challengers, and are entitled to respect in the market.
The John & Thady Gosden-trained filly Emily Upjohn ran a stormer of a race in the trial for this when runner-up to Paddington in the Coral Eclipse last time out, and winning the Coronation Cup in the outing before that puts her firmly in the calculations.
Six-year-old Hukum is one of the highest rated horses in this contest, and expected conditions on the day will certainly suit with his form on soft ground reading 131. His last two runs have suggested he is a horse of the highest calibre, and Owen Burrows’ colt has every chance of following up that form. He defeated Pyledriver in last year’s Coronation Cup before then beating Desert Crown on his reappearance at Sandown in May.

It’s sure to be a competitive contest at Ascot this Saturday, and Aiden O’Brien runs two outsiders as well as his shorter priced entries. Point Lonsdale (80/1) and Bolshoi Ballet (125/1) are the highest odds in the field, so could the Ballydoyle handler produce a shock? See below the full King George betting odds.
