Son Heung-Min Is Now Officially One Year Younger With New South Korean Age Laws

Tottenham and South Korea star Heung-Min Son became a year younger overnight, as South Korea chose to change their traditional age counting laws.

Traditionally in South Korea citizens would be given the age of 1 from birth, meaning that Son was 31-years-old until last night when the law officially changed.

The law was passed in December by Yoon Suk Yeol, who was newly elected as the 13th Korean president in 2022.

Yoon Suk Yeol has previously campaigned for his country to abolish the law which dates back centuries, so his country could catch up with the rest of the world.

The Korean president was successful in his campaigning, as it was officially confirmed the law would be abolished in December last year.

Although it was approved in December the ancient law was only abolished on Wednesday, meaning that every South Korean in the world effectively got a year younger this week.

Son was born on July 8, 1992 which means that when his birthday comes around next week he will officially turn 31 – for the second time in his life.

There was rumours that Son could be destined for a move to Saudi Arabia this summer, however the Spurs star denied the rumours saying ‘money doesn’t matter’ to him.

Instead, Son is expected to stay on at Tottenham where he still searches for the first domestic trophy of his career.
