Megan Nicholls, who rode 58 winners during her career, never really did make it as a rider. However, the daughter of 11-time champion National Hunt trainer Paul Nicholls, could easily have a career in comedy on the horizon after her recent comment when previewing the 2023 Ascot Gold Cup.

Megan Nicholls goes onto say that Yibir “won’t stay in a double decker bus” – referring to the Charlie Appleby horse not being able to last out the 2m4f trip of the Ascot Gold Cup. The ‘boys in blue’ of Godolphin have won the Ascot Gold Cup five times in the past, but Megan Nicholls clearly feels Yibir WON’T be making it win number six.
However, Megan Nicholls might be onto something, as the furthest Yibir has run to date is just 1m5f – meaning this Dubawi gelding has an extra 7 furlongs to last out in the Gold Cup.
If Yibir does go onto win the Ascot Gold Cup, Nicholls will certainly have egg on her face and maybe dad Paul might be tempted to throw a few custard pies too!

The Ascot Gold Cup is the feature contest over the 5-day Royal Ascot Meeting that starts on Tuesday 20th June and runs till Saturday 24th June.
Run over 2m4f, the Group One race holds a top prize of just over ÂŁ280k and has been won 8 times by both trainer Aidan O’Brien and jockey Frankie Dettori, who will be riding in the race this year for the last time as he announced his retirement at the end of this season.
