Following the breaking news that unfolded overnight, the Kylian Mbappe next club odds market shifted considerably in favour of long-time admirers Real Madrid.
An option to extend his current contract with PSG to 2025 was refused by the 24-year-old, which may force the Parisians into a sale this summer.
Should they pass up the opportunity to recoup some of the £150m investment from 2017, the Ligue 1 champions run the risk of losing their prized asset for free next season.
The World Cup golden boot winner performed a staggering turnaround last summer despite appearing to be on the verge of switching Paris for Madrid.
Los Blancos had prepared a bid believed to be worth around £195m, with add-ons and a considerable wage package taking the overall deal to near-enough £300m.
However, a puzzling U-turn saw Mbappe sign a bumper three-year deal worth just under £1m-per-week to stay put in the French capital, citing a love for his home country as the driving factor.
Upon penning the fresh terms, he said: “I hope they [Real Madrid] understand my decision to stay in my country.
“I’m French, and as a Frenchman I have the dream of carrying on trying to see France and its league at the very top.
“Everyone knows that I wanted to leave last summer and it was the best decision possible at that time.”
The situation turned somewhat sour in Madrid after they believed Mbappe had misled them over his intentions to sign, and it was widely reported that he had already given them a verbal go-ahead.
Real Madrid president Florentino Perez was even filmed speaking to fans outside the Bernabeu last summer, where he can be heard muttering, “poor man, he will already be sorry”.
🚨 Kylian Mbappé has informed PSG of his decision: he’ll NOT trigger the option to extend current contract until 2025, it means that deal would expire next June 2024 — as L’Équipé called.

Whether the 14-time European champions have the facilities to broker a deal this summer remains to be seen, particularly with the club expected to complete a deal worth over £100m to bring Jude Bellingham to La Liga.
However, the departure of main goal threat Karim Benzema will force them to dive into the market for a replacement – manager Carlo Ancelotti has already confirmed Madrid are drawing up a shortlist of viable options.
If PSG are indeed forced to sell Mbappe this summer, it may prove to be a market opportunity too good to pass up. A deal for priority target Harry Kane is expected to be complicated with Tottenham chairman remaining stubborn over his estimations.
Elsewhere, Manchester United follow closely in the next club odds market with their shorter price fulled by the imminent sale of the club. Signing arguably the world’s best player would be a monumental statement of intent from the new owners, whether it be Sir Jim Ratcliffe or Qatar’s Sheikh Jassim.
It is unlikely any other teams would register genuine interest this summer given Mbappe’s astronomical market value. Interested parties will enter negotiations with the knowledge that PSG have to sell this window if they are to recoup their original investment, which may see his price drop if the situation becomes desperate.
