Former Premier League and Champions League champion Naby Keita has completed a move to Bundesliga side Werder Bremen following his release from Liverpool.

Following his release from Liverpool, Naby Keita has completed a move to Bundesliga side Werder Bremen.

Keita was tipped for big things upon his £60m move to Liverpool from RB Leipzig, and despite winning both the Premier League and the Champions League, his injury-blighted stint in Merseyside was largely a disappointment.

The 28-year-old made just 13 appearances for the Reds this term, in another campaign ruined by muscular injuries.

Likely due to his injury record, Liverpool did not offer the Guinean a contract extension, seeing him leave the club on a free transfer this month.

He was quick to be snapped up too, with a return to the Bundesliga secured with bottom-half side Werder Bremen, with the club confirming his signing on social media.

Keita will be looking to return to his former best with a return to the Bundesliga, having previously enjoyed a short spell with RB Leipzig.

In Die Roten Bullen colours, Keita made 58 Bundesliga appearances, scoring on 14 occasions, as well as assisting 13 goals.

Upon completing his return to Germany, the midfielder expressed his delight at signing for the club.

“I’m really excited for my new challenge here in Bremen,” he said.

“I was impressed by what the club told me about the setup here and Werder’s style of play. The coach gave me a really good feeling and showed how I can help the team.

“Werder is a special club and I know the Weserstadion from my time with Leipzig. This club and its philosophy will be a good match for me, so this is the right step for my career.”
