Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso has played down rumours of an exit this summer amid reports linking him to Tottenham Hotspur and Real Madrid.

Tottenham and Real Madrid managerial target Xabi Alonso has played down rumours linking him with a Bayer Leverkusen exit this summer.

The former Liverpool midfielder has seriously impressed in his first full-time role as a head-coach, which has seen him be linked to some of Europe’s elite.

Alonso could lead his side to a Europa League final on Thursday, if they are to overturn a one goal deficit against Jose Mourinho’s Roma.

Spurs have reportedly held an interest in the Spaniard since parting ways with Antonio Conte back in March.

They do however, have worries in regards to his lack of experience. His only other previous managerial role came for Real Sociedad’s B team between 2019 and 2022.

This has raised suggestions that the 41-year-old is an outsider for in the race for Tottenham’s managerial role, but Alonso himself has insisted that he is not looking to leave the Bundesliga club.

Alonso On Tottenham & Real Madrid Links

Speaking to the press ahead of the Europa League semi-final, Alonso confirmed his intention to stay.

“Yes, I’m gonna stay at Bayer Leverkusen.” Alonso said.

“I’m very happy at this club and with this team.”

Alonso has previously spoke about the rumours linking him to the two European powerhouses, but remained consistent in saying he would stay with Leverkusen.

“I’ve been in football for many years, rumours are normal but we [Leverkusen] still have a lot to achieve.” he said at the start of May.

“That’s why my head is 100 percent here for the last few months. And my head is also 100 percent here for next season.”
