Tottenham interim manager Ryan Mason has confirmed that club captain Hugo Lloris will miss the remainder of the season due to a thigh injury.

Speaking to the media ahead of Tottenham‘s clash with Crystal Palace, interim boss Ryan Mason has confirmed that Hugo Lloris will miss the rest of the season.

Lloris was forced off in Spurs’ embarrassing 6-1 defeat to Newcastle last month, with Fraser Forster deputising ever since.

Initially, the club had hoped he’d be back before the end of the campaign, but Mason has now confirmed that the club captain has played his last game of 2022/23.

Not only could he have played his last game of the season, but also his last game for Tottenham in general.

With just a year left on his contract, speculation regarding his transfer has been rife, and now he may not get the chance for a proper farewell.

“Hugo is out for the season. We have now had the results back. We did fear that,” Mason said.

“I can’t speak about next season but Hugo has got a very important role for us until the end of the season.”

Not only was Lloris’ injury discussed in the press conference, but Mason provided injury updates on other members of his Tottenham squad.

It was confirmed that Rodrigo Bentancur is progressing well in his recovery from his ACL injury suffered back in February.

“You have to be careful,” Mason said on Bentancur.

“We’re assessing him day by day. He’s making progress but it’s too early to set a return date.”

When asked about whether Yves Bissouma would return before the end of the season, Mason replied positively.

“We’re hopeful.” he said.

“There are some hurdles he’s got to overcome.”

He also confirmed that Emerson Royal is expected to return before the end of the campaign.

“Emerson is day by day now and hopefully he can help us before the end of the season.”
