BBC Sport pundit and former Celtic forward Chris Sutton has delivered his Premier League prediction for Liverpool vs Fulham, backing the Reds to narrowly beat the visitors as they search for a top four finish.

In a jam-packed midweek of Premier League fixtures, top four chasing Liverpool take on Fulham on Wednesday evening.

The Reds are currently fifth in the Premier League table, seven points behind fourth place Manchester United.

Ultimately, if Liverpool want a Champions League spot – they will likely need to win all five of their remaining fixtures, coupled with a monumental blunder from Manchester United or Newcastle United.

Jurgen Klopp’s side have been in great form in recent weeks, and are now unbeaten in six successive matches.

They have won their last four matches in the league, with their last three points coming in the form of a 4-3 win over Tottenham.

The same cannot be said about Anfield’s visitors on Wednesday however.

Fulham have won just two of their last nine matches in all competitions, losing their last two.

Last time out they fell to a respectable narrow 2-1 defeat to Manchester City, and lost 1-0 to Aston Villa in the match prior.

Chris Sutton Liverpool vs Fulham Prediction

Speaking in his BBC Sport column, former Celtic and England forward Chris Sutton delivered his prediction for the clash.

“Liverpool are putting a bit of a run together. They have got all their forwards back fit – Diogo Jota looks sharp and Luis Diaz is getting minutes under his belt too – and Trent Alexander-Arnold is enjoying his new inverted role.” Sutton said.

“Do I trust them defensively? No, that hasn’t changed. Fulham have got some talented attacking players and caused the Reds plenty of problems when they drew 2-2 at the start of the season. They were pretty lively against Manchester City at the weekend too.

“I think Liverpool will edge this one and they are getting stronger and stronger but, to make the top four from here, they need to win all five of their remaining games and hope Newcastle United and/or Manchester United slip up quite dramatically. That looks unlikely.”

Sutton’s Prediction: Liverpool 2-1 Fulham @ 9/1
