BBC Sport pundit and former England international Chris Sutton has delivered his Premier League prediction for Manchester City vs Arsenal, backing the ‘relentless’ Citizens to beat league-leading Gunners in the vital clash for the title.

In a full list of midweek Premier League fixtures from Tuesday to Thursday, one match stands out above all.

Reigning league champions Manchester City host current league-leaders Arsenal on Wednesday evening in what could be the title decider for 2022/23.

Following three consecutive draws, the Gunners now sit just five points clear of Man City, with the Citizens holding an advantage of having two games in hand on Mikel Arteta’s side.

Arsenal’s disappointing draws have come against relegation candidates Southampton and West Ham, as well as European football chasing Liverpool.

The matches against West Ham and Liverpool saw Arteta’s men bottle a two goal lead to earn just a point.

This has now opened the door for Manchester City to reclaim their spot at the top of the pile as a victory over the Gunners and victories in their games in hand would see them move four points clear at the top.

City are in incredible form too, having not lost in their last 16 matches, so it’s a huge ask for the north Londoners.

Arteta will also be without William Saliba, who looks to have failed to recover from injury in time for the tie.

Nathan Ake is a doubt for Pep Guardiola’s side after coming off with a problem in the Champions League showdown versus Bayern Munich.

Fans and pundits have been offering their predictions ahead of the tie, including that of former England and Celtic forward Chris Sutton.

Chris Sutton Man City vs Arsenal Prediction

“I am very confident with my prediction for this game – the only thing I wasn’t sure about was whether Arsenal would score.” Sutton said in his BBC Sport column.

“The Gunners are playing this match at one of the worst possible moments because City have found their rhythm and are hitting some incredible form.

“I really hope Arsenal are brave and take the game to City because the Gunners’ attack is their strength, but in many ways that will play into the home side’s hands.”

Sutton then highlighted his worry over how Arsenal’s defence deals with Erling Haaland.

“Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Jesus – on his return to Etihad Stadium – will all carry a threat, but we have seen how vulnerable they are at the back in the past few weeks, and how on earth do you stop Erling Haaland and co?

“If, say, Nathan Ake is out injured then that will hamper City a bit, but I still see Pep Guardiola’s side really dominating the game, and they are absolutely relentless when they come forward.”

Sutton’s Prediction: Manchester City 3-1 Arsenal
