Liverpool have seen their hopes of securing a European spot for next season boosted this afternoon after defeating Nottingham Forest in a thrilling 3-2 victory at Anfield.

A goalless first-half at Anfield left fans anxious for the second 45, with some of the Kop faithful reportedly booing their players of the pitch.

Whatever was said at the break however clearly worked a treat.

Diogo Jota opened the scoring for Jurgen Klopp’s side just two minutes after re-emerging from the tunnel, rifling home brilliantly.

The lead didn’t last long though, with the Midlands club striking back after just four minutes.

And it was a familiar face too, as former Liverpool defender Neco Williams smashed home a deflected effort to level the scoring.

Four minutes later, Jota restored the hosts’ lead with a beautiful finish past Keylor Navas, before Morgan Gibbs-White levelled once more.

Luckily for the Merseysiders, Mohamed Salah decided to get in on the goalfest, netting the fifth and final goal of the afternoon at Anfield.

Forest had plenty of chances to level once more, most notably with substitute Brennan Johnson rattling the crossbar, but it wasn’t to be for Steve Cooper’s side.

With just seven games remaining, Klopp’s side have now put themselves in good stead to gain European football for the next campaign.

Their hopes of a top four finish are all but confirmed to be over, but a position in the Europa League or Europa Conference League now looks likely.

Up next for the Reds is a tricky tie against West Ham, before facing Tottenham, Fulham, Brentford, Leicester, Aston Villa and Southampton.
