Manchester United face a difficult challenge to keep Marcus Rashford at Old Trafford amid interest from French giants PSG, who are reportedly willing to make the forward football’s sixth highest paid player.

Rashford is entering the final year of his contract at United which expires at the end of the 2023-24 season. According to The Athletic, little progress is being made in extension talks.

The 25-year-old’s current deal, signed in 2019, elevated Rashford amongst the Premier League’s highest paid players. £200,000-per-week makes him the seventh biggest earner at the club behind:

  • David De Gea: £375,000-a-week
  • Jadon Sancho: £350,000-a-week
  • Raphael Varane: £340,000-a-week
  • Casemiro: £300,000-a-week
  • Anthony Martial: £250,000-a-week
  • Bruno Fernandes: £240,000-a-week

Rashford is now in line for a new deal which would surely see him become the club’s highest paid player. If the winger doesn’t feel that Manchester United can match his ambition, however, a move to PSG could potentially be on the cards.

Last summer, the Parisians reportedly offered Rashford a contract worth more than £400,000-a-week. The approach was rejected, as the player preferred to stay put in Manchester – and what a decision it was.

Under Erik ten Hag this season, Rashford has bagged 27 goals and nine assists in 44 appearances. United won the Carabao Cup last month, are third in the league, in the Europa League quarter-final and FA Cup semi-final.

If Rashford accepted PSG’s offer last year, he would be the joint-sixth highest earner in the sport:

  • Cristiano Ronaldo (Al-Nassr): £3,400,000-a-week
  • Kylian Mbappe (PSG): £1,600,000-a-week
  • Lionel Messi (PSG): £1,000,000-a-week
  • Neymar (PSG): £950,000-a-week
  • Andres Iniesta (Vissel Kobe): £450,000-a-week
  • Eden Hazard (Real Madrid): £400,000-a-week
  • Kevin De Bruyne (Manchester City): £400,000-a-week
  • David Alaba (Real Madrid): £400,000-a-week

According to Premier League betting sites, Rashford is 14/1 to win the PFA Player of the Year award behind Erling Haaland (1/3), Martin Odegaard (6/1) and Bukayo Saka (6/1).
