Fabrizio Romano has reported that Bruno Fernandes will remain as Manchester United captain for the foreseeable future, with Erik Ten Hag valuing the Portuguese star’s leadership.

Bruno Fernandes’ role as captain was under heavy scrutiny after Manchester United’s 7-0 loss to Liverpool at thee weekend, as the midfielder appeared to beg to be substituted during the embarrassing defeat.

Fabrizio Romano has reported today that Erik Ten Hag is happy with his captaincy and the manager even spoke about the incident on media duties.

“I’m happy to have Bruno Fernandes as captain. Definitely [still captain], I think he’s playing a brilliant season, he’s played an important role in the position that we are.

“He’s giving energy to the team, running with intensity, in the right way”

Ten Hag wasn’t the only one to give Fernandes praise following the Liverpool battering, as teammate and star of Manchester United’s season so far Marcus Rashford gave all of his support to the captain.

“I love playing with Bruno, as you can imagine. I’m 100% behind him. Bruno helped other players become better leaders.

“Ten Hag? Having a new manager was exciting for me and I’ve not looked back since then”.

Despite the loss, United still remain third in the league seven points clear of Liverpool, so Fernandes may still have the last laugh this season as the Red Devils cling on to a Champions League spot.

Manchester United’s slip up against Liverpool will go down as one of the craziest games in Premier League history, but Ten Hag’s side will have no time to think about the loss as they welcome Real Betis to Old Trafford this Thursday for their Europa League last 16 first leg.
