Ever since his move to Paris-Saint-Germain, talks of Lionel Messi returning to Barcelona has been a constant suggestion by Blaugrana president Joan Laporta. With his contract up in the summer, we’ve taken a look at Messi’s next club odds.
Lionel Messi left boyhood club Barcelona back in 2021 as the club was surrounded by financial turmoil.
The Argentine made the switch to Ligue 1 giants Paris-Saint-Germain, linking up with former teammate Neymar Jr.
It took a while for the 35-year-old to adapt to life in France, but he is now enjoying a stellar season with the Ligue 1 leaders.
Messi has 18 goals and 16 assists in 29 appearances so far this term, a return already better than last season’s.
His contract in Paris comes to an end this summer, but there is an option to extend for a further year.
The World Cup winner recently told the media how happy he is with PSG at the moment.
“I feel great at PSG. The first year cost me a lot to adapt to Paris, but now I feel good with a lot of desire to feel comfortable in the club and in the city. I’m enjoying it a lot.” Messi said.

Joan Laporta’s Comments
A return to Barcelona has been a constant suggestion made by the Blaugrana president Joan Laporta.
Laporta even met with Jorge Messi, Leo’s father, to discuss a number of topics.
“I met Jorge Messi, we talked about the World Cup and a tribute match for Leo. I’m happy for him.” Laporta stated.
“He’s at PSG right now, so I don’t want to speak about whether or not he could return.”

Unsurprisingly, several clubs are said to be interested in securing the services of one of the game’s greatest ever this summer.
One of those is believed to be David Beckham’s Inter Miami. Reports have even suggested that the MLS itself would help facilitate a move for the Argentine talisman.
