Ahead of this afternoon’s North West Derby, we’ve taken a look at the squad values of Liverpool and Manchester United and have come up with the most expensive combined XI based on the players’ market values.
This afternoon, Liverpool host bittter rivals Manchester United at Anfield as the Reds look to move up to fifth in the Premier League table.
The pair have already met once this term, as Erik ten Hag’s United ran out as 2-1 winners at Old Trafford. Jadon Sancho and Marcus Rashford netted the vital goals that day, with Mohamed Salah getting on the scoresheet late on to halve the Liverpool deficit.
Throwback to when Jadon Sancho completely embarrassed the Liverpool defence 😰

Both sides come into this one in good form, having not lost in their last four Premier League outings.
Manchester United last played in the league on the 19th of February, as they defeated Leicester City 3-0 at home. Since then, they’ve played three cup matches, overcoming Barcelona in the Europa League, pipping Newcastle United to the Carabao Cup, and advancing to the quarter finals of the FA Cup with a victory over West Ham United.
Liverpool last played in the league on Wednesday evening, defeating Wolves 2-0 at Anfield.
Ahead of this afternoon’s tie, we have priced up the market values of both squads, and have come up with the most expensive combined XI based on the players’ values, per Transfermarkt.

Goalkeeper – Alisson (£50m)
Valued at £50 million, Liverpool’s Alisson gets the nod to start in goal. He beats United’s David de Gea to a spot in the XI, with the Spaniard valued at £15 million.
Right-Back – Trent Alexander-Arnold (£70m)
In right-back we have England international Trent Alexander-Arnold. The 24 year-old is valued at £70 million, and beats Diogo Dalot (£30m) and Aaron Wan-Bissaka (£18m) to a spot in the starting lineup.
Centre-Backs – Virgil van Dijk (£50m) And Lisandro Martinez (£50m)
It’s a centre-back apiece for Liverpool and Manchester United in the combined XI. Both valued at £50 million,Virgil van Dijk and Lisandro Martinez beat the likes of Raphael Varane (£40m), Ibrahima Konate (£35m), Harry Maguire (£30m), Joe Gomez (£30m), Joel Matip (£16m) and Victor Lindelof (£15m) to the lineup.
Left-Back – Andy Robertson (£55m)
Scotsman Andy Robertson is our left-back valued at £55 million. This leaves Luke Shaw (£28m), Tyrell Malacia (£22m) and Konstantinos Tsimikas (£18m) without a place in the squad.
Midfielders – Bruno Fernandes (£75m), Fabinho (£55m) And Casemiro (£50m)
Two Manchester United players and one Liverpool player feature for us in midfield, with a combined value of £180 million. Harvey Elliott (£35m), Scott McTominay (£30m), Christian Eriksen (£25m), Curtis Jones (£22m), Marcel Sabitzer (£20m), Fred (£20m) and Naby Keita (£20m) all miss out on a place in the team.
Right-Winger – Mohamed Salah (£80m)
Egyptian winger Mohamed Salah starts on the right for us. The 30 year-old has underpeformed throughout this campaign, but has found form in recent matches, scoring three and assisting two in his last five matches in all competitions. He gets into the lineup ahead of United’s Antony (£75m).
Left-Winger – Luis Diaz (£75m)
There were plenty of options for the left-wing position, but Luis Diaz takes it with a market value of £75 million. He pips one of the Premier League’s most in-form players Marcus Rashford (£55m) to a spot in the combined XI. Others that miss out are Cody Gakpo (£60m), Jadon Sancho (£60m), Diogo Jota (£55m) and Alejandro Garnacho (£5m).
Striker – Darwin Nunez (£70m)
Uruguayan striker Darwin Nunez (£70m) completes the XI, making it eight Liverpool players and three Manchester United players. The 23 year-old earns a place in the squad over teammate Roberto Firmino (£28m), Anthony Martial (£15m) and Wout Weghorst (£14m).
Combined XI Value – £680m
