Chelsea FC Injury Update: Thiago Silva Sidelined For Six Weeks With Ligament Damage

The latest Chelsea FC injury update today is grim reading for Blues fans, with the news that Thiago Silva will be out of action for around six weeks after being forced off against Tottenham.

Despite a nightmarish record in front of goal, Chelsea have been remained afloat thanks in no small part to their stout defensive unit, which ranks joint-fourth in the Premier League for least goals allowed.

Summer signing Kalidou Kouliably and seasoned veteran Thiago Silva have formed a blossoming partnership in the heart of defence, conceding just 25 goals in 24 games this season, but it now looks as if the latter faces a lengthy spell on the sidelines.

The Brazilian was forced off after just 19 minutes against Tottenham last time out, and Sky Sports pundit Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink went as far as saying that Chelsea‘s level dropped as a result; the Blues went on to conceded twice to extend their winless run to six games.

Silva’s leadership qualities have helped to begin stitching together what remains a disjointed and vastly inexperienced new-look Chelsea team, and his absence is likely to be felt more than most having clocked up the more minutes any other squad member.

The returning Wesley Fofana replaced him after being forced off, but having just recovered from a considerable injury spell, thrusting him into action too soon could be ill advised. Elsewhere, Graham Potter can turn to Trevor Chalobah and Benoit Badiashile, although the latter is ineligible for their upcoming Champions League second-leg against Borussia Dortmund.

If Silva fails to return before his six week injury time frame, he will also likely miss a potential quarter-final should the Blues manage to overturn a first-leg defeat to the German side.
