Newcastle United take on Manchester United in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley this Sunday, but former England and Arsenal stopper David Seaman has claimed that the Red Devils have ‘too much’ for the Magpies.

Eddie Howe will lead Newcastle United out at the new Wembley Stadium for the first time in their history this Sunday, as they take on Manchester United in the Carabao Cup final.

The Red Devils are in fine form coming into the final – as they look to secure their first piece of silverware since 2017. Erik ten Hag’s side have won 14 of their 18 matches since returning from the World Cup, and sit comfortably in third place in the Premier League table. United will be full of confidence too, having defeated La Liga leaders Barcelona in their last game to advance to the Europa League last-16.

Newcastle are currently fifth in the league table, but are without a win in their last four Premier League outings. A disappointing 2-0 defeat to Liverpool last week also saw Nick Pope red carded – meaning he’ll miss out on the final. Second choice keeper Martin Dubravka will also miss out as he is already cup-tied. German goalkeeper Loris Karius is expected to start between the sticks for the Magpies.

David Seaman’s Comment’s

75-time ex-England international David Seaman has offered his prediction for the tie, stating that the Red Devils have ‘too much’ for Eddie Howe’s men.

“Even if Nick [Pope] hadn’t been sent off, I still feel like Manchester United would have too much for them anyway,” Seaman claimed on his podcast.

“The form that they are in, the confidence that they’ve all got now. They are all contributing, even the players that are coming in. They rested [Raphael] Varane for this cup game because they said he might’ve played too many games, and there was a couple of other players that wouldn’t have played otherwise.

“The whole squad is ready and what that gives ten Hag now is the chance to pick his best eleven. I think Maguire might not make it but he’s still got a really strong squad to pick from. So they will be at full strength.”
