Ruby Walsh Picks Out Three Horses He’d Want to Ride at Cheltenham
With 59 Cheltenham Festival winners, no jockey has steered home more horses to victory than Ruby Walsh. He retired from the saddle back in 2019, but still has strong links to the Willie Mullins yard.
So, when Ruby Walsh was asked recently which three horses he’d love to ride at the 2023 Cheltenham Festival – punters surely have to take notice.
ECHOES IN RAIN (Mares’ Hurdle, Tues) @ 6/1 with BetUK
Fifth in this race 12 months ago, but Ruby Walsh feels the better quality field and likely stronger pace this year will help this Mullins-trained 7 year-old. She was a tidy 10 length winner at Naas last time out and being a hold-up performer should have the race run to suit.
IMPAIRE ET PASSE (Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle, Weds) @ 9/4 with BetUK
Impaire Et Passe, from the powerful Willie Mullins camp, and will head to the Festival unbeaten from his three starts. The latest was a smooth success in the Moscow Flyer Novice Hurdle in January so has also been kept fresh for this. Looks to have Hermes Allen to beat, but will be a popular pick.
It’s also worth noting that Impaire Et Passe @ 4/1 with BetUK could run in the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle (Tues 14th March), but with BetUK’s non-runner, no bet, you will be covered.
MIGHTY POTTER (Turners Novices’ Chase, Thurs ) @ 5/4 with BetUK
From the Gordon Elliott camp but Ruby has been impressed with this horse since he’s gone chasing. The 6 year-old has won all three starts over the bigger obstacles. While he put in his best performance yet when winning the Ladbrokes Novice Chase last time. Will be many people’s idea of the day three Cheltenham Festival banker.
