Spurs have seen their odds to finish in the Premier League top four drop to 7/4 after defeating London rivals West Ham United 2-0 at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium this evening.

  • Spurs saw early appeals for a penalty waved away after the ball appeared to strike Thilo Kehrer’s hand.
  • Best chance of the half came on the stroke of half-time, as Emerson Royal’s headed effort flew just over the crossbar.
  • Royal made up for missing the earlier chance – netting the opener in the 56th minute.
  • Heung-Min Son made an instant impact from the bench, combining with Harry Kane for Tottenham’s second.

Tottenham came into this one without manager Antonio Conte, as he continues his recovery in Italy after undergoing gallbladder surgery.

Assistant manager Cristian Stellini took charge, for the third time this season, having previously led Spurs to victories over Marseille (Champions League) and Manchester City (Premier League).

A big call was made by Stellini ahead of the fixture, as he opted to bench South-Korean forward Heung-Min Son, naming Richarlison in the line-up ahead of him.

It was a fairly uneventful first-half, with the best chance coming for Emerson Royal. On the stroke of half-time, Dejan Kulusevski whipped a corner into the West Ham box and found the head of Royal, but his headed effort couldn’t be directed on target – flying just over the crossbar.

Ben Davies gave Royal the opportunity to make up for his missed chance early in the second half, playing the Brazilian in on-goal where he made no mistake in slotting past Lukasz Fabianski for the opener.

Son made an instant impact as a substitute, netting just five minutes after being introduced. The old link-up of Kane and Son was at its prime for the goal. Kane slipped Son in behind the visiting defence, and finished excellently past Fabianski for the second.

Tottenham overtake Newcastle United in the Premier League table, as they move into the Champions League places – into fourth place, as West Ham remain in the relegation zone.
