Chelsea will be without experienced attacker Raheem Sterling after he “took a kick” in training. Sterling will miss the clash in front of 81,000 fans in Dortmund.
Chelsea hosted an open training sessions before they flew out to Germany for the crucial knockout game. The 28-year-old winger was absent from training as he recovers from a slight knee injury. It was this injury that kept Sterling out of the game against West Ham over the weekend.
It was hoped by those around Graham Potter that Sterling would be fit enough to travel with the squad today. Unfortunately Sterling suffered a slight knock on his road to full fitness.
Sterling’s Experience Will Be Missed By Chelsea
With their Premier League campaign looking worse for wear, a solid Champions League run is needed for Potter.
During the January transfer window, Potter spent big trying to improve their squad. That January window added even more money onto the growing bill under their new ownership.
Potter has brought in youthful players such as Enzo Fernández, João Félix, Mykhailo Mudryk and Noni Madueke. The likes of Sterling will be needed throughout the season to add experience to the youthful squad.
Missing Sterling for this big Champions League clash isn’t ideal for Potter will be calling on his experienced pros in such a big game. To add further to the intensity of the game, there’ll be 81,000 fans packed into the Signal Iduna Park.
