Former Leeds United boss Jesse Marsch is reportedly no longer in the running for the vacant Southampton manager position, after talks broke down between both parties.
Southampton’s move to make ex-Leeds United boss Jesse Marsch their new manager is believed to have collapsed, after disagreements over the proposed contract’s length.
Saints offered Marsch a short-term contract, but the American wanted a longer deal. The club are said to not be keen on a long-term contract due to the current situation at St Mary’s.

Previous Southampton boss Nathan Jones was sacked just a day after losing at home to 10-man Wolves, leaving his side bottom of the Premier League table, four points adrift of safety.
Marsch was relieved of his duties at Elland Road not long before Jones, following a 1-0 loss away at Nottingham Forest.
The American lasted less than a year in Yorkshire. Last season he steered the club to Premier League safety on the final day with a 2-1 win over Brentford.
He was previously part of the Red Bull project, managing RB Leipzig, New York Red Bulls and Red Bull Salzburg. The 49-year-old had been tipped to become the next United States national team manager before the Southampton rumours surfaced, a job that may now be back on the cards.
What Next For Southampton?
Without a doubt, this deal collapsing will be a setback for the Saints, but they certaintly won’t be without options.
The likes of Wayne Rooney, Frank Lampard, Steven Gerrard and many more have been linked with the role at St Mary’s.
Southampton have confirmed that first-team coach Ruben Selles will be in charge of training and for Saturday’s tie against Chelsea.
Selles will see this as an opportunity to turn the club around, and may put himself in the running to become the club’s next permanent manager.
