York Racing Results on Thursday 24th August 2023 – Warm Heart Wins Yorkshire Oaks
James Doyle rode his first-ever winner for Aidan O’Brien as Ballydoyle landed a seventh Yorkshire Oaks courtesy of Royal Ascot winner Warm Heart. The return to better ground suited the three-year-old filly in the Group 1 feature, who denied the late challenge of course Middleton winner Free Wind by a head with the 9lb weight for age proving key.

Unsteady favourite Savethelastdance made the running and stayed on for third, confirming Irish Oaks form with Bluestocking in fourth. Glorious Goodwood Group 1 winner Al Hsun and older Irish raider Rosscarbery were the last two home and disappointing.
Belated Birthday Present for Haggas with Relief Rally Landing Lowther
Despite a bit of uneasiness on horse racing betting sites, Relief Rally justified favouritism in the opening 6f Group 2 Lowther Stakes for juvenile fillies when getting up by a length. Angled out to the stands’ side after getting cover early on under jockey Tom Marquand, Simon Munir and Isaac Soeude’s talented youngster bested Irish raider Cherry Blossom.
Trainer William Haggas celebrated his 63rd birthday on the first day of the Ebor Festival, so his present was better late than never. York racing results show heads separating second from third, third from fourth and fourth from fifth in the Lowther. Symbology bested Karl Burke duo Dorothy Lawrence and Beautiful Diamond and hit the frame.
Front-Running Dragon Leader Storms to Premier Yearling Victory
The market usually gets it right in the Premier Yearling Stakes at York races today, the latest in a series of valuable sales races for two-year-olds. So it proved again when Dragon Leader made most of the running in the 6f contest under Ryan Moore for trainer Clive Cox in a fractionally quicker time than the Lowther. He shot 4 1/2 lengths clear of the pack with fellow joint market leader Ziggy’s Condor best of the rest with a trio of big-price outsiders taking minor honours.
Ropey Guest Has His Day in Clipper Handicap
A big shock among York racing results saw 40/1 outsider Ropey Guest finally win a Heritage Handicap after trying for so long. He got past the front-running Point Lynas and prevailed in the 1m Clipper Handicap by a head, while Sonny Liston left his burst from the back too late and just missed third, which went to Spirit Catcher. The well-supported Northern Express rounded out the first five.
Sea Theme Listed Success Brings up Haggas & Marquand Double
Later on the card, Doncaster races novice winner Sea Theme enjoyed a Listed victory in the 1m 4f Sir Henry Cecil Galtres Stakes as she just held off One Evening by a head. Fine margins separated success from failure here, but jockey Marquand and handler Haggas enjoyed a double with Tregony a further head back in third.
Gushing Gold Gives Balding & Buick Nursey Success
The 7f nursery handicap was another of the tighter York racing results with Andrew Balding’s Gushing Gold broke the maiden tag with a neck victory over 20/1 shot Lexington Belle. Even bigger outsiders Inishfallen and Dark Encounter rounded out the first four.
Nigiri Lands Hat-Trick in Final Race
Ralph Beckett had some reverses on the Knavesmire, notably Same Cooke and Bluestocking, but ended the day with a winner courtesy of Nigiri in the 7f fillies’ handicap. She emphatically completed a hat-trick by scoring more than four lengths from Coco Jamboo. Just a head further back in third was Naomi Lapaglia with Peony also in the frame.
