Wissa’s On Fire: Brentford Sponsors Name South African Racehorse After Bees Striker

‘Wissa’s On Fire’ is a chant the Brentford faithful blast out at the Gtech Community Stadium most weeks, but we could soon be hearing the same cheering on the racetracks in South Africa. Confused? Let’s explain further.

The Racehorse ‘Wissa’s On Fire’ Made His Debut in South Africa

Brentford’s striker Yoane Wissa has fired in three Premier League goals this term and was also on target during the recent international break for DC Congo in their 2-0 win over Mauritania.

However, the Wissa title was also on show at a racetrack in South Africa recently as the 27 year-old’s name was snapped up by Brentford’s shirt sponsor – Hollywoodbets – when it came to naming a racehorse they’ve purchased.

Calling a 3 year-old bay colt they owned ‘Wissa’s On Fire’.

Bred in South Africa, the horse is trained by Gareth (jnr) and the Hollywoodbets-owned son of Captain Of All had his debut run at Scottsville racetrack on 19th November 2023.

The horse was sent off at betting odds of 14/1 with the best UK betting sites, but defied that price to finish a cracking runner-up – beaten just a head by the second favourite El Draque.

With the race being run over 5f, the horse – just like the Brentford star man – is all about speed.

And with that promising opening run under his belt all eyes will be on Wissa’s On Fire next time to see if he can ‘Bee’ a winner and live up to his name.
