The rumours that Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua could step into the ring to face each other before the end of the year are certainly gathering huge momentum. Fury called Joshua out via social media, with Joshua responding saying he was up for it. Both fighters want the fight, so lets get it on!
This fight is quite possibly the biggest fight in British boxing history, should it get made and officially announced. Tyson Fury is the best heavyweight on the planet right now, and Joshua is still third or fourth best, despite losing his last two fights to Oleksandr Usyk.
Fury vs Joshua would capture the imagination of fight fans all over the world, so lets hope the pair are serious and the fight gets made.
Will Fury vs Joshua Happen?
With most boxing fans thinking this was all just hype and speculation, they are now in danger of looking incredibly silly as negotiations between Team Fury and Team Joshua are well underway.
The rumours all started when Fury called Joshua out on Twitter, as he indicated he wanted to fight before the end of the year but that Oleksandr Usyk wouldn’t be ready for the undisputed heavyweight fight until 2023.

Joshua responded to Fury’s call out seemingly accepting the fight and for Team Fury to send a contract to Joshua’s management team. All of a sudden, the biggest fight in British boxing history was gathering some real traction.
Yea calm. I don’t do the online discussions just for clout, so if your really about it shout @258mgt. I’ll be ready in December. Khalas https://t.co/kKCWdrlmol

There are so many intricate details that need sorting out, such as a date, venue, purse splits etc, but some boxing fans are increasingly optimistic that the fight will happen next.
There are lots of rumours that the fight could take place on December 17th, the day before the 2022 World Cup Final, and that the fight could be at the Principality Stadium, Wales.
This would make total sense, as it is one of the biggest arenas in the UK, and is the only one with a roof which will likely be needed since the fight is potentially going to be right in the middle of December.
Fury took to social media again stating that his offer to Joshua was a generous one, and that the purse split would be 60/40 in favour of ‘The Gypsy King’. This is in fact a generous offer, considering Joshua has no belts and is coming in off two consecutive defeats at the hands of Oleksandr Usyk.

This is a free shot at a world title for Joshua, he has nothing to lose. It is potentially a mega-fight and could go down as one of the biggest and best fights in British boxing history.
What Stumbling Blocks Are In The Way?
There are of course going to be some stumbling blocks in the way between now and this fight (hopefully) getting announced.
Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua are of course represented by different management teams, different promotors and fight on different TV platforms. These are the three main issues with staging this event, but for a fight of this magnitude you would hope these issues could be resolved for the greater good of boxing.
The biggest problem seems to be the TV network saga. Joshua fights on DAZN and has just signed a long-term deal with the streaming giants, meanwhile Fury is a BT Sport fighter.
This is where the problem could lie, unless the two TV companies struck a deal to both televise the event on their own platforms, rather than just one TV company getting the fight instead of the other.
Another option of course could be to air it on free view TV. Imagine the amount of eyeballs that would tune in to watch that fight in the UK and across the world, if the fight was free to air. Say BBC or ITV won the rights to that fight, you’re talking about one of the biggest, if not THE biggest TV audience for a boxing fight in history.
Lets hope these potential problems can get resolved and ironed out quickly, so that Fury vs Joshua can officially get announced!

Eddie Hearn: "The reality is Anthony Joshua is still arguably the biggest draw in boxing. AJ vs Tyson Fury is still five times as big as Fury vs Oleksandr Usyk, that's the reality. By the way, Fury vs Usyk is a great fight, but people want to see AJ vs Fury." [@talkSPORT]
