Micah Richards could not believe Chelsea let Mo Salah go out on loan in 2015 when the pair were team mates for a short time at Serie A side Fiorentina. The former Manchester City defender was blown away with Salah’s ability in training, and revealed he found it baffling the now 31-year old wasn’t given a proper chance in west London.

Salah has since gone on to star for AS Roma and has secured legendary status with Liverpool, with whom he signed for in 2017. The Egyptian king has scored 198 goals in all competitions for the Reds and helped the club win the UEFA Champions League in 2019 and the Premier League title in 2020.

Micah Richards Quotes

“He was at Fiorentina with me. I’ve said it many, many times, I can’t believe it. He was unbelievable. I can’t believe Chelsea let him go on loan. And then he went to Roma. He used to get the ball in training, dribble past everyone and just pass it into the net. Then he did the exact same in games and I was like: ‘How? Why is he not playing at Chelsea,'” Richards exclaimed.

“So I’m thinking in my head: ‘He must be a bad egg’. Because there’s no way it’s on footballing ability and he was the nicest guy ever,” the pundit went on to add.

Richards recently announced his ideal starting England XI for Euro 2024, alongside Gary Lineker and Alan Shearer on their The Rest Is Football Podcast. However, it’s unlikely anyone in that line-up that Richards may have played alongside, compares to the natural talents of Salah.

Mo Salah’s Time At Chelsea

Mo Salah‘s time at Chelsea has been well publicised and it’s by no means a secret he struggled to make an impact at Stamford Bridge, hence the loan spells at Fiorentina and Roma. Nonetheless, Salah did make 13 Premier League appearances for the Blues scoring two goals. His first came in the 6-0 romp against Arsenal in Arsene Wenger’s 1000th game and the other in a 3-0 win over Stoke City.

Former boss Jose Mourinho publicly criticised Salah in the 2014/15 season after a 2-1 victory over Shrewsbury in the League Cup, and some may argue this was the catalyst in to turning Salah into the global superstar that is widely recognised today. In early 2015, he was shipped out on loan to Fiorentina and the rest is history.

Salah is perhaps the best right-winger in world football currently and has been a global star for some time. The 31-year-old has gone on to score four Premier League goals against Chelsea and 149 in the division all together. Jurgen Klopp’s biggest star will be put to the test on Saturday when Liverpool take on Manchester City, with the Cityzens the current match favourites at 4/5 with the best UK betting sites, Liverpool can be backed at 17/5 and the draw at 10/3.
