If you’ve regularly been checking the Premier League table then you might’ve seen that Luton and Burnley have just played 5 matches compared to everyone else’s 6.

This is because earlier on in the season the Luton V Burnley match got postponed due to changes being made to Kenilworth Road not being ready in time for fans to enter the stadium. The match was then re-scheduled to play on Tuesday 3rd October at 7:30pm.

Luton were promoted to the Premier League for the first time ever and Kenilworth Road needed extensive work to it. This included:

  • Improving media facilities
  • Improving camera positions
  • Improving dugouts
  • Improving floodlights
  • Upgrading wooden seats
  • Revamping the Executive Boxes Stand, which will be pretty much rebuilt
  • Rebuilding most of the Bobbers Stand to comply with requirements on media facilities and camera positioning

It’s believed that these upgrades have cost Luton £12m. Kenilworth Road became a popular talking point amongst football fans due to their bizarre away end entrance. Fans have to go under someone’s house in order to get to the oak stand which holds 1000 away supporters. This will be a nice treat for those travelling Burnley supporters on Tuesday evening. It’s also the smallest Premier League ground with a capacity of just over 10,000.

The Hatters do eventually plan on moving to a new home, the Power Court Stadium, a former power station just one mile east of Kenilworth Road in the town’s centre.

Luton travel to Merseyside on Saturday to face Everton whilst Burnley will face the wrath of the toon army as they take on Newcastle.

Both Luton and Burnley have only managed one point from their first five matches. This will make Tuesday evening a huge early six-pointer in the relegation battle.
