Reds manager Jurgen Klopp has openly admitted his injury-ravaged squad is down to its bare bones.

The likes of Mohamed Salah, Darwin Nunez and Trent Alexander-Arnold were all missing as Liverpool’s kids overcame Chelsea in the League Cup final on Sunday.

Other absentees include Alisson Becker and Thiago Alcantara among many, many more.

Rising stars like James McConnell and Jarell Quansah came off the bench against Chelsea. But one youngster who is still waiting for his debut is Trey Nyoni.

The versatile young baller was an unused substitute at the weekend, but is tipped by many to play a part on Wednesday.

With Liverpool’s injury crisis forcing Klopp to rely on youth players, here’s everything you need to know about Trey Nyoni.

Who Is Trey Nyoni?

Born on 30 June 2007, 16-year-old Trey Nyoni is an exciting young midfielder. Capable of playing through the middle or on the left, Nyoni has operated in several roles for Liverpool’s youth sides.

Although born in England, Nyoni is also eligible to play for Zimbabwe, the country of his parents.

The youngster came through the academy system at Championship leaders, Leicester City. Nyoni played for the Foxes’ under-18 side at 15 years old, scoring twice in 13 games for them in the under-18 Premier League.

He moved to Liverpool at the end of the 2022/23 season, scoring the winner against Everton under-18s in September 2023.

In October, his performances reportedly impressed Jurgen Klopp so much that Nyoni was invited to train with the first team. The following month, he made his under-21 debut in the Premier League 2.

Nyoni also featured in the EFL trophy, with the under-21s travelling to League Two Barrow. His first inclusion in a Premier League match day squad came on 12 November, though he was not used in Liverpool’s 3-0 win over Brentford.

Internationally, Nyoni has played at youth level for England. He scored and assisted on debut for England under-16s in August 2022, in a 3-2 victory over Italy. He was later called up to England under-17 in October 2023.
