Ahead of Thursday’s Europa League play-off ties, we’re taking a look at the highest ranked teams left in the competition as decided by UEFA.

Rankings are decided by the UEFA club coefficients which have been updated following this week’s Champions League knockout games.

Highest Ranked Remaining Teams In Europa League

23 = Arsenal

After finishing top of Group A, Arsenal sealed a place in the Europa League round of 16 and will play the winner from one of the play-off ties except Manchester United.

Mikel Arteta is searching for another piece of silverware as Gunners manager and Arsenal are favourites to lift the trophy in the Budapest final on Wednesday, 31 May.

With a Premier League title race alongside Manchester City expected to last until the end of the campaign, Arsenal are truly in the mix for major honours once again.

13 = Roma

Ranked at #13, Roma face Red Bull Salzburg in a two-legged tie to reach the round of 16 under Jose Mourinho’s guidance following last season’s UEFA Conference League triumph.

The Italians are fourth in Serie A, behind only Atalanta, Inter Milan and Napoli but will fancy their chances against a Salzburg outfit who have lost two of their last three.

10 = Ajax

Ajax face a tough test against Bundesliga outfit Union Berlin to advance to the next stage but enter the occasion in good form with four straight wins under their belt.

The Dutch side finished third in their Champions League Group A behind Napoli and Liverpool, automatically entering Johnny Heitinga’s men into the Europa League.

9 = Juventus

A disappointing league campaign for Juventus will likely be forgotten about if Massimiliano Allegri can steer the Old Lady to Europa League glory.

Juventus host Nantes in the first play-off leg on Thursday after being eliminated from their Champions League Group H, finishing third behind PSG and Benfica.

8 = Manchester United

Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United will have to overcome Spanish giants Barcelona in order to advance to the round of 16 as the Red Devils search for a first major trophy in six years.

Since gameweek three in the Premier League, United have earned the most points – more than both Manchester City and Arsenal.

7 = Barcelona

Barcelona are eight points clear at the top of La Liga ahead of Real Madrid in second – but wouldn’t have expected to fall into the Europa League this early in this season.

Xavi’s side finished third in their Champions League Group C behind Bayern Munich and Inter Milan, with Manchester United awaiting on Thursday.

Barcelona have won 11 straight games in all competitions and are odds-on favourites to beat the Red Devils at the Camp Nou.
