16-year-old Luke Littler has had an incredible run at this years World Championship, making it all the way to the final on his senior darts debut. But who is Luke ‘The Nuke’ Littler and could he really win a fairytale world title?
Luke Littler World Championship Debut
Luke Littler made his debut on the biggest stage at the beginning of last month and he didn’t shy away from the toughest of occasions, as the 16-year-old dropped just two legs on his debut to Christian Kist earning him a spot in the last 64.
The Teenage sensation recorded a higher average than any other debutant in history, with a score of 106.12 across the three sets sending Ally Pally into delirium.
Luke ‘The Nuke’ threw seven maximums against Kist and also recorded a 50% strike rate at hitting doubles in what was a debut masterclass.
Ahead of the tournament there was plenty of buzz to see Littler at the highest level of darts, with the Warrington born star already named PDC World Youth Champion earlier this year.
Littler began playing darts when he was nine and it didn’t take him long to get to the highest levels at a young age, as at just 12 years old he won England’s Youth Grand Prix.
Between the ages of 14 and 15 Littler continued to perform in the senior age group, adding five more titles to his name in the space of a year. At 16 (this year) Littler won the Gibraltar Open and the PDC World Youth Championship in his most successful year to date.
Luke Littler Incredible Championship Run
After dispatching of Kist in his debut Littler continued his impressive run, with consecutive victories against Andrew Gilding, Matt Campbell and Raymond van Barneveld earning the teenage sensation a spot in the quarter finals against Brendan Dolan.
Littler again rose to the occasion with relative ease, as he calmly advanced to the semi final after only dropping one set against his Northern Irish opponent.
Rob Cross was Litter’s next opponent in the semi finals, with the 16-year-old coming into the game as marginal favourite to advance to what would be a record breaking grand slam final.
Despite dropping the first set against Cross Littler stayed composed, and he went on to win seven of the next eight to earn a spot in the World Championship final against Luke Humphries.
Littler’s betting odds immediately plummeted following his debut win and they have only gone down since. After being available at as high as 200/1 before the tournament, the 2024 World Championship debutant is now just 6/5 to secure what would be a life changing first title.
World Championship Outright Odds
- Luke Humphries – 4/6
- Luke Littler – 6/5
Although you could get Littler at an incredible price of 66/1 and above ahead of the World Championship, that price has now completely plummeted to 6/5 ahead of Wednesday’ final.
His convincing run in the competition has earned the 16-year-old a spot in the final of the World Championship in a clash against Luke Humphries, with the teenager now just 6/5 to win with the best new UK betting sites.
Littler would become by far and away the youngest ever winner of the World Championship if he was to pull off the incredible win and now priced as the underdog in the final – could the 16-year-old really go all the way?
