Ex-England defender Rio Ferdinand has revealed who thinks should replace Gareth Southgate as England manager.

Ferdinand’s Next England Manager

Speaking to co-hosts Joel Beya and Stephen Howson on Vibe with Five, Ferdinand said: “If I’m England, I’m talking to [Jurgen] Klopp now.

“If I’m Klopp, I’m looking at the England squad and thinking I can win the World Cup. [He should go to] England or Barcelona.

“The FA have to go and get Klopp or Mourinho. If I’m the FA, I’m going to them two guys and whoever wants it, you go in the ring, have a fight about it and come back to us.

“Gareth Southgate is lucky, lucky man. He’s earned the right but it’s a lucky place to be in this era, this generation with what he’s got at his disposal. He’s got Jude Bellingham who’s carrying the Bernabeu on his back at the moment. [Phil] Foden. [Bukayo] Saka. [Harry] Kane. [John] Stones. [Declan] Rice.

Klopp has been heavily linked with the Germany job since his successful spell at Borussia Dortmund, but Ferdinand isn’t convinced the Liverpool coach would take it.

“Have they [Germany] got a good enough batch at the moment? Musiala is the stand out. There has to been enough in there to think ‘I’ve got a chance with this lot’.”

Klopp Or Mourinho As Next England Manager?

After eight years as England manager, there has been plenty of speculation regarding Gareth Southgate’s future.

Southgate is set take to charge of England at his second European Championship this summer but there have been reports that this could be his last tournament as manager.

Both Jurgen Klopp and Jose Mourinho have recently become available and could potentially fill Southgate’s shoes.

Last week, with Liverpool top of the Premier League table, Klopp sensationally announced that he would be leaving the club after nine years on Merseyside, citing that he “is running out of energy.”

And with international management well-known for being less intense than club management, it could be seen as a slightly more leisurely option for the German coach.

Jose Mourinho, on the other hand, was sacked by AS Roma after two-and-a-half years at the club earlier in the month, with the Giallorossi struggling in the Serie A table.

The Portuguese coach looks to be in the Autumn of his career as a club coach, but his strong penchant for trophy success could be a perfect fit for England – who have failed to win an international trophy since 1966.
