As the 2023/24 Premier League season enters its final stages, we have taken a look at which player has accumulated the highest xG so far.
What is xG In Football?
In football, xG or expected goals is used to highlight the probability/possibility of a chance in front of goal that could end up finding the back of the net.
Statisticians calculate xG by venturing into previous goal scoring opportunities from the past and use this information to evaluate the likelihood of a chance being scored.
Using the similar characteristics to evaluate how likely a goal is – with the final total ranking between 0 and 1.
Premier League 23/24: Highest xG

Erling Haaland: 0.87 xG
The Manchester City striker is top of the Premier League goal scoring charts once again (as of March 7th) and continues his remarkable record in England.
In City’s Manchester derby triumph, Haaland scored the final goal of the match to secure a 3-1 victory, but his missed chance in the first-half caught the headlines.
From six-yards out, at a time where the Cityzens were 1-0 down, the 22-year-old volleyed the ball over the bar in one of the misses of the season – a chance that had an xG of 0.89.
This season, the highest xG Haaland has achieved came in Man City’s 3-1 victory over West Ham – as he accumulated an xG of 2.56 but only scored once and missed the most big chances in a 2023-24 league match (5).
Darwin Nunez: 0.74 xG
The Uruguayan striker has enjoyed a fairly successful season in front of goal this season, contributing to 17 goals in 25 league matches (10G+7A).
Averaging 0.74 xG per 90, Nunez has been a constant threat for Liverpool and has proved vital for the Reds from the bench – contributing to eight goals when coming on (4G+4A).
In what is an unfortunate record, the 24-year-old achieved the highest xG in Premier League history without scoring as his chances against Newcastle reached 1.64 xG.
So far in the Premier League, Nunez has achieved an xG of 13.13 meaning his 10 goals are under performing what is expected of him.
The Liverpool star also ranks second and third for big chances missed in a match, missing three against Newcastle and Aston Villa.
Nicolas Jackson: 0.64 xG
Nicolas Jackson has lead the line for Chelsea this season and has managed to scored eight goals in the Premier League.
This tally is 4.27 behind his expected goals, as the Senegal international has accumulated an xG of 12.27 in the league so far.
During Chelsea’s 4-1 win over Spurs, which saw Ange Postecoglou’s side go down to nine men, Jackson scored a hat-trick and reached the highest xG of any player in a singular match with 2.88.
Alexander Isak: 0.63 xG
The Swedish international has managed to achieve an average of 0.63 xG per 90 and a total of 10.84 this season – scoring 11 goals.
The 24-year-old has struggled with injuries during the 2023-24 campaign and has missed 12 big chances in the Premier League.
In the 2022-23 season, Isak reached a final xG of 8.78, meaning he has already exceeded his tally with 11 matches remaining.
Richarlison: 0.57 xG
Richarlison has started to show his quality for Tottenham Hotspur, after a disappointing campaign in his opening year at the club.
The Brazilian has scored 10 goals in the league so far, which is nine more than he managed in the entirety of last season.
The 26-year-old averages an xG of 0.57 per match and sits on an expected goals of 8.59 for the season so far – meaning he has outscored his xG.
