Which Premier League Club Gained The Most Followers in March?

Despite the international break prolonging the run-in to the end of the season, Premier League clubs have continued to gain significant traction across social media, and using data sourced by Sportslens, we are posing the question; which Premier League club gained the most followers in March?

Using social media analytics courtesy of Social Blade, we have scoured the Premier League’s current top 10 to see which clubs have gained the most followers over the past month.

Using follower data from YouTube, TikTok, Twitter and Instagram, Sportslens have been able to combine all four metrics to see which club’s social media presence has been the strongest, as the curtain draws on this season.

  • Manchester City gained the most followers in March.
  • Chelsea topped the Instagram charts with just under 700,000 new followers.
  • Tottenham’s TikTok channel has gained a lot of traction over the past month, garnering 1.3m new followers.

Which Premier League Club Has Gained the Most Followers in March?

10. Brentford

Coming in at number 10, we have one of this season’s surprise packages Brentford.

Thomas Frank has masterminded a genuine push for European football, with the Bees currently eighth at the time of writing. They had a 12-game unbeaten streak cut short by Everton earlier this month which signalled a minor drop in the table, but a crucial fixture against fellow European hopefuls Brighton this weekend could define their season.

For a side who found themselves in the fourth tier of English football just over a decade ago, their meteoric rise is truly something to behold, and their following continues to grow as their inspiring underdog story unravels.

9. Fulham

Fulham’s capitulation in the FA Cup against Manchester United, which saw them receive three red cards in the space of a minute, will surely have boosted their traction across social media – not for the right reasons, mind you.

Despite this, the Cottagers still find themselves ninth in the league, and Marco Silva’s side have been a fine addition to the season having gained promotion in spectacular style last season.

8. Newcastle

Eddie Howe’s Newcastle side have put their mid-season blip behind them after winning against Wolves and Nottingham Forest prior to the break, which has sparked their Champions League ambitions back to life.

They remain the league’s most defensively sound unit having conceded just 19 goals in 26 games.

7. Brighton

Adam Lallana recently praised Roberto de Zerbi’s impact as manager since replacing Graham Potter, saying, “he’s just made football make so much more sense.”

Much like Brentford, the Seagulls have a genuine chance of qualifying for European football next season, and the Italian’s transformative football has seen them become one of the league’s most attractive sides.

With three games in hand over fourth-placed Liverpool, they can leapfrog the Reds should they beat Brentford, Bournemouth and Tottenham in their upcoming fixtures.

6. Chelsea

The Blues find themselves in an unfamiliar, somewhat unsettling position all the way down in 10th place. They will be hoping other results swing in their favour, with 11 points currently separating themselves and fourth-placed Tottenham.

Nevertheless, their global recognition has shown little sign of slowing down as they rank just outside of the top five for most followers gained in March.

5. Liverpool

Another side who have endured an underwhelming season by their recent lofty standards, Liverpool just sneak into the top five.

Just as it looked as if a late-season resurgence was on the cards, they fell to the unlikeliest of defeats away to relegation-threatened Bournemouth, but a victory against Manchester City this weekend could propel them forward into charge for Champions League football.

4. Manchester United

Despite being the most followed Premier League side, Manchester United only manage to rank fourth for followers gained throughout March.

Erik Ten Hag’s side remain in contention for both the Europa League and the FA Cup, having already claimed the first trophy of his reign in February with the Carabao Cup. Should they manage to keep their momentum going in both competitions, expect their follower gain to be much higher in the coming months.

3. Arsenal

Just missing out on the top two are the Premier League’s real life leaders Arsenal, whose already sizeable following has inevitably increased this season.

Their scintillating form, which has seen them fail to win just six of their 28 fixtures thus far, has led to unprecedented demand for tickets with memberships growing by around 250% according to the club’s box office.

At the time of writing they are eight points clear at the summit, although title rivals Manchester City hold a game in hand, albeit against Liverpool in Saturday’s early kick-off, so the Gunners will be praying for a favour from the Reds.

2. Tottenham

International breaks are typically very quiet for domestic clubs, but Tottenham have experienced quite the opposite in March. Nevertheless, they can maybe find a microscopic amount of comfort in pipping North London rivals Arsenal to second spot on our list.

Chairman Daniel Levy decided to part company with manager Antonio Conte after the Italian’s sensational remarks earlier in the month, which sees his loyal assistant Cristian Stellini take over as interim until the end of the season.

The controversy doesn’t end there however, with Director of Football Fabio Paratici expected to be banned from football after his involvement with false accounting while at former club Juventus.

Win all their remaining games, and Spurs can hopefully look forward to Champions League football once again next year, but Newcastle, Brentford, United and Liverpool all await before the season’s end.

1. Manchester City

Manchester City fans will be hoping their number one status on this list is a good omen for their eventual position in the Premier League table.

The Citizens are highest scorers and the second-best defenders in the division, yet they still need to muster the strength to topple Arsenal in the run-in if they are to claim a third successive title.

They remain in contention for a historic treble, and although Pep Guardiola will have his eyes firmly fixed on ending his Champions League curse at City, they will undoubtedly push the Gunners all the way.
