Winning the Champions League is one of the greatest achievements in football. It’s a moment that teams, fans and managers cherish. But which manager has the most Champions League wins since the competition was established in 1992?

Which Manager Has The Most Champions League Wins After The Format Change In 1992?

Carlo Ancelotti may be under threat of tax evasion charges, but the typically stoic Italian is the most successful manager in the Champions League since the format changed in 1992.

He’s won four Champions Leagues titles – three times with Real Madrid (2007, 2014, 2022) and one with AC Milan (2003). Ancelotti also has the most wins with 115 in 198 games.

The former Chelsea and Bayern Munich coach has been a match made in heaven for Real Madrid, so much so he returned for a second stint. He’ll be looking to lead the club to a 15th Champions League win, in what could be well be his final season with the club.

Real Madrid will find out their next opponents in the quarter-final draw on Friday.

Guardiola and Zidane

Pep Guardiola and Zinedine Zidane are in joint-second for overall title wins. Both managers have three Champions Leagues under their belt – Guardiola will be looking to make it a fourth this season, and a second successive with Manchester City. Other Champions League wins for Guardiola came with his native Barcelona (2009, 2011).

Guardiola ended Manchester City’s wait for European glory last year and they’re strong favourites, as per Champions League betting sites, to clinch the trophy again this year.

If Guardiola needed advice on how to win consecutive Champions League trophies, he need not look past Zinedine Zidane. The Frenchman won three consecutive Champions League titles with Real Madrid spanning from 2015-2018.

Zidane has been out-of-work since 2021 when he decided to step down as Real Madrid manager as he struggled with the heavy workload. There’s plenty of opportunities to return next season with Liverpool, Bayern Munich and Barcelona all in need of a manager.

Guardiola is second on the most Champions League wins with 108 in 168 games. Oddly, Zidane is not on the list which shows that Real Madrid won when it mattered.

Rest of the top ten

Arsene Wenger made the top ten for most game wins despite Arsenal never managing to win the Champions league. Sir Alex Ferguson made both lists after winning two Champions Leagues titles with Manchester United.

Liverpool managers Rafa Benitez and Jurgen Klopp made the top ten list for most game wins. Unfortunately, Klopp won’t be able to add to the one Champions League win he has with Liverpool, in his last season, but he still could give hand them one last helping of European glory in the Europa League.

Other decorated managers such as Jose Mourinho and Ottmar Hitzfield are also on the list.
