In typical Daniel Levy fashion, a hold up at the airport over a contract change has slightly delayed Harry Kane’s departure from London, but it looks all but certain that Bayern Munich have finally got their man.

After failing to fill the hole left by Robert Lewandowski’s exit last year, they have now managed to acquire perhaps the only like-for-like replacement in world football.

Kane has hit 20 league goals or more in six of the last nine seasons, which is testament to his innate ability to find the net.

In taking the decision to sell England’s captain and all-time record goalscorer, Spurs now face an almighty task in finding a suitable replacement. With strikers of his calibre almost impossible to come by unless for a premium price, many observers are questioning how competitive Tottenham can be without a reliable source of goals.

Indeed, the importance of Kane’s contribution can not be underestimated. This is perhaps best reflected by removing his 30 goal tally from last season; in doing so Spurs would have finished 17th.
