If there’s any event worth setting an alarm for, it’s certainly the Melbourne Cup. On Tuesday morning, Flemington Park sees one of the most famous horseraces in the world take place, with a start time of 4:00am in the UK and Ireland.
The Melbourne Cup brings out some of the best Australian horses with some monster European raiders. This year, the current betting favourite is the Willie Mullins-trained Vauban – a former star-hurdler now looking to conquer one of the biggest flat races on the planet. The Rich Ricci-owned five-year-old can be backed at 9/4.
Also prominent in the betting is last year’s winner Gold Trip, and can be backed at 4/1. Ciaron Maher and David Eustace’s charge won the renewal of this contest in 2022 and will be looking for his back-to-back success when he goes to post on Tuesday.
Mullins also runs Absurde, who was last seen winning the Ebor Handicap at York back in August in the hands of Frankie Dettori. However, he is one of the outsiders in this market with a price of 14/1.
