What Do Scotland Need To Qualifty For Euro 2024

Following their loss to Spain on Thursday night, many will be wondering: What do Scotland need to qualify for Euro 2024? Read on to see what Steve Clarke’s side now need to secure their place in Germany next summer.

Scotland Made To Wait For Euro 2024 Qualification

Scotland suffered their first Euro 2024 qualifying defeat on Thursday as they lost 2-0 to Spain in Seville, but their dreams of playing in Germany next year are still very alive.

The Scots had won their first five games in Group A including a 2-0 win over Spain in the reverse fixture at Hampden Park. They needed to get at least a point against them on Thursday to secure their qualification, but in the end were controversially beaten with VAR another huge talking point on the night.

Clarke’s side thought took they’d lead just before the hour mark through a Scott McTominay free-kick, but it was ruled out by VAR who judged Jack Hendry to interfere with Spain goalkeeper Unai Simon.

Scotland are now made to wait as they needed Norway to fail to beat Cyprus if they couldn’t pick up at least a point against Spain. However, the Norwegians cruised past Cyprus with a 4-0 win thanks to a handy brace from Erling Haaland.

So, What Do Scotland Need To Qualify For Euro 2024 Now?

All attention now turns to Sunday: Scotland will qualify for Euro 2024 if Norway fail to beat Spain at home. But it will still be in the Scots’ hands heading into November if they can’t qualify on Sunday.

Clarke’s men will need to win in their penultimate game against Georgia next month. If they don’t beat Georgia, then they will once again have to rely on other results.

Despite the defeat on Thursday to Spain, Scotland still have every chance of qualifying as dreams of Euro 2024 in Germany are edging closer.
