According to UK betting sites, West Ham are amongst a host of clubs in the battle to sign Southampton captain, James Ward-Prowse.

The Hammers have endured a difficult season under David Moyes, being in and around the relegation places for weeks on end.

However, after picking up points against, Arsenal, Bournemouth and Fulham, the club look on track to stay in the Premier League.

Moyes’ side have had a different experience in the Europa Conference League, where they have progressed to the quarter finals. The side from east London are the only English club to stay undefeated in Europe and may win their first piece of silverware in over a decade.

Supporters are aware of the elephant in the room – Declan Rice. The England international looks set to leave his boyhood club at the end of the campaign, with Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester City all interested in the 24-year-old.

Rice has been a superb captain under Moyes, meaning his replacement will have big shoes to fill at the London Stadium. One player that could be a potential suitor for his vacancy is Southampton star, James Ward-Prowse.

The 28-year-old has had a tough year with the Saints, as the club look set to be relegated for the first time since their return to the top-flight in 2012.

Ward-Prowse has established himself in the Premier League, making 338 appearances and has contributed to 85 goals in the process.

Renowned for his dangerous set-pieces, the Southampton captain has scored 17 free-kicks during his time in the top division – one behind the current record holder, David Beckham.

Being the captain at the Saints puts the England international in good stead to succeed should he join the Hammers, however with a host of clubs interested, Ward-Prowse’s future remains unclear.
