Darren England and Daniel Cook are set to make their return to Premier League officiating duties after their suspension following a major error during the Tottenham versus Liverpool match.

During that match, Diaz’s goal was incorrectly disallowed for offside, and the mistake drew widespread attention. Replays clearly indicated that Diaz was onside, but the on-field referee and VAR officials bizarrely ruled against it. This led to their suspension for a subsequent fixture.

The blunder was exposed when the audio of their conversation was released. During the exchange, the VAR team indicated that Diaz was onside, and the on-field referee congratulated them for the process. However, they soon realised that play had continued without the correct call. They were unable to correct it due to the on-field decision.

Both Cook and England faced criticism for failing to correct such a clear mistake. PGMOL chief Howard Webb recently explained that despite the officials’ desire to rectify the error, the game had already resumed, and there was no way to reverse the decision.

Now, after their brief suspension, both officials are preparing to get back to work. According to Sky Sports, England will take on the role of the fourth official for the Brentford versus Burnley match, while Cook will serve as the assistant referee for Sheffield United’s game against Manchester United. Both Cook and England hope for an incident-free weekend upon their return.

Nonetheless, with their suspension now behind them, Cook and England are preparing to return to the Premier League, hoping for a smoother experience when they officiate in the upcoming fixtures.
